The buildings are set in a Baroque park landscape in the third district of the city, on the south-eastern edge of its centre. It currently houses the Belvedere museum known in German as the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere (in English, referred to both as the Belvedere Museum and Austrian Gallery). The grounds are set on a gentle gradient and include decorative tiered fountains and cascades, Baroque sculptures, and majestic wrought iron gates. The Baroque palace complex was built as a summer residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy.

The Belvedere was built during a period of extensive construction in Vienna, which at the time was both the imperial capital and home to the ruling Habsburg dynasty. This period of prosperity followed on from the commander-in-chief Prince Eugene of Savoy's successful conclusion of a series of wars against the Ottoman Empire.","austrian-gallery-belvedere/background/austrian-gallery-belvedere_background","austrian-gallery-belvedere/logo/austrian-gallery-belvedere_logo","+43 1 795570",16,"https://www.belvedere.at","Belvedere,_Vienna",[30],"gustav-klimt/the-kiss/the-kiss
[33
"The Kiss","83aa5e27-4d74-48e5-b5c5-8720b0f6096e",[37
"Gustav Klimt","972c43d1-c765-4ddc-ab47-33931480853f
"9298e0ec-3c06-43ec-b3bf-9fa15a3cefd0","Austrian","austrian","gustav-klimt","Gustav Klimt (14 July 1862 – 6 February 1918) was an Austrian symbolist painter and a founding member of the Vienna Secession movement. His work helped define the Art Nouveau style in Europe. Klimt is known for his paintings, murals, sketches, and other objets d'art. Klimt's primary subject was the female body, and his works are marked by a frank eroticism. Amongst his figurative works, which include allegories and portraits, he painted landscapes. He is best known for The Kiss and Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I. Among the artists of the Vienna Secession, Klimt was the most influenced by Japanese art and its methods.

Early in his career, he was a successful painter of architectural decorations in a conventional manner. As he began to develop a more personal style, his work was the subject of controversy that culminated when the paintings he completed around 1900 for the ceiling of the Great Hall of the University of Vienna were criticised as pornographic. He subsequently accepted no more public commissions, but achieved a new success with the paintings of his "golden phase", many of which include gold leaf. Klimt's work was an important influence on his younger peer Egon Schiele.

Klimt died in 1918, having suffered from a stroke and pneumonia. Since his death, Klimt's paintings have brought some of the highest prices recorded for individual works of art at auction.","1862-07-14","1918-02-06","gustav-klimt/gustav-klimt",13,"MALE","Gustav_Klimt","the-kiss","1907–1908","The Kiss (German: Der Kuss) is an oil-on-canvas painting with added gold leaf, silver and platinum by the Austrian Symbolist painter Gustav Klimt. It was painted at some point in 1907 and 1908, during the height of what scholars call his "Golden Period". It was exhibited in 1908 under the title Liebespaar (the lovers) as stated in the catalogue of the exhibition. The painting depicts a couple embracing each other, their bodies entwined in elaborate robes decorated in a style influenced by the contemporary Art Nouveau style and the organic forms of the earlier Arts and Crafts movement.

The painting now hangs in the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere museum in the Upper Belvedere Palace in Vienna, and is considered a masterpiece of Vienna Secession – the local variation of Art Nouveau – and probably Klimt's most important work.",180,false,"Der Kuss (German)",8,"The_Kiss_(Klimt)",[],[62
"Abstract","8175aee2-f0d0-4a22-b889-cf436e203aea","abstract
[70,74
"Symbolism","604cbbc0-095d-43d5-b67e-8119c1f7db80","symbolism
"Modern Art","f4c96565-ac59-4dd1-802c-46e44261c09a","modern-art",[79,83
"Gold leaf","8982c527-ae2d-40a6-8119-b76213b2bce5","gold-leaf
"Oil on canvas","f74fc1b0-2804-4c39-a52c-84cad71698d7","oil-on-canvas",1,0,30]
